[QTin Illustrated Meditation] Let Us Praise the Lord (Psalm 33:1–22)

Psalm 33 proclaims and teaches us how to praise the Lord. In verse 1, David calls on the “righteous” and the “upright” to praise Him. The righteous are those who know they are sinners, rely on God, and are clothed in His righteousness. Likewise, the upright are those who honestly confess their wretched sinfulness and put their trust in God. When we truly understand how we’ve been forgiven and saved, we can’t help but praise the Lord. The very events that once broke and ruined us now become the very means by which we came to believe in Jesus—and so, as verse 3 says, we sing to Him a new song.

From verses 4 to 19, David gives concrete reasons why we should praise the Lord. Verse 4 says, “For the word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all He does.” Then verse 5 declares, “The earth is full of His unfailing love.” In verse 6, David praises God for His creation. God, who created the world and leads it along the best path with His perfect Word, is the same God who chose us and made us His people. That is our reason to praise. Verse 12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance.” We did not choose God—He chose us. We are His holy inheritance. The same applies to our children, spouses, and families. We may think we chose them, but in truth, God had already planned everything in advance and gave us the exact people we needed. When we believe this, we can truly praise Him.

“Lord, I want to live a life that praises You. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.”

 

 

 

[큐티인 그림묵상] 여호와를 찬송할지어다 (시 33:1-22)

오늘 33편에서는 주님을 어떻게 찬양할 것인가를 선포하고 가르칩니다. 다윗이 마땅히 찬양해야 한다고 촉구하는 대상은 1절에 보니 '의인들'과 '정직한 자들'이에요. 자신이 죄인임을 알고 하나님께 의뢰하여 하나님의 의를 덧입은 사람들이 곧 의인이지요. 정직한 자들 또한 마찬가지예요. 자신이 얼마나 참혹한 죄인인지 정직하게 고백하며 하나님을 의뢰하는 사람이 곧 정직한 자들이죠. 내가 어떻게 죄 용서함을 받고 구원받았는지를 안다면, 마땅히 찬양할 수밖에 없어요. 예전에는 나를 망하게 하고 힘들게 했던 사건들이 나를 살리고 예수 믿게 해 준 사건으로 새롭게 해석되기에 3절에서 이야기하듯 새 노래로 찬양하는 것입니다.

다윗은 4절부터 19절까지 구체적으로 우리가 여호와 하나님을 찬양해야 할 이유를 제시해요. 먼저는 4절에 "여호와의 말씀은 정직하며 그가 행하시는 일은 다 진실하시도다"라고 해요. 이어서 5절에는 "여호와의 인자하심이 충만하도다"라고 하시고, 6절에서는 하나님의 창조를 찬양해요. 세상을 창조하시고 정확한 말씀으로 세상을 가장 선한 길로 인도하시는 그 하나님이 우리를 선택하여 백성 삼으셨다는 것이 우리에게 찬양의 이유가 되는 것이에요. 12절에 "여호와를 자기 하나님으로 삼은 나라 곧 하나님의 기업으로 선택된 백성은 복이 있도다"라고 해요. 우리가 하나님을 선택한 것이 아니라 하나님이 우리를 선택하셨고, 우리는 하나님의 거룩한 기업임을 알아야 해요. 자녀도, 남편도, 아내도 마찬가지예요. 우리가 선택한 것 같지만 하나님이 미리 계획하시고 나에게 꼭 맞는 배우자, 자녀를 주신 것입니다. 이것을 믿을 때 우리는 하나님을 찬양할 수 있습니다.

"여호와를 찬송하는 인생을 살아가길 원합니다. 예수 그리스도 이름으로 기도드리옵나이다.아멘"
